Mellieha Bell-Ringing Group

The bell-ringing group is a group of volunteers that ring the church bells in the main religious events, like feasts and other celebrations and functions. Six to ten teenagers that live in the locality usually form the group. The group members must be dynamic especially during big feasts, when a backup is required for a long time. The leader leads the group members, while he is also in charge for instructing new members.

The person in charge of the group is the sexton of the local parish church. The group is not only aimed to bell ringing, but also aims to discipline its members especially in co-ordination between themselves.

The first bell-ringing group in Mellieha was formed in 1925, when the bells were installed in the belfries of the Mellieha Parish Church.
